First Night of Wine on the Back Porch

Last night, Julie and I had our first night of hanging out and drinking wine on the back porch, for the new year. It is finally getting warm enough to do that.

This time it was Folie a' Deux's Barrel Select Zinfandel, from Amador County, the 1999 vintage. This wine was not as big and juicy as some Zins we drink. In fact, it was down right mellow, with just a hint of the requisite Zinfandel spiciness.

All-in-all, it was a fine evening.

Even More On The Temperance Movement

John, of The Musings of Fish, also has a followup to all the recent posts on the Temperance Movement. In John's post, he brings up the Temperance Movement in the context of a discussion about his Christian beliefs, a common thread on his blog. Now, I am not a particularly religious man. However, I can appreciate the philosophy of the discussion and certainly respect his beliefs. If you are interested, check it out.

I should also note that Brian's post, which I mentioned a couple of days ago, has turned into an interesting political discussion, in the comments' section.

In general, the subject of the Temperance Movement seems to have sparked quite an inter-blog discussion.

Another Quickie: The Price of Beer 100 Years Ago

Last week, the Tucson Citizen had an article saying that the price for a glass of beer, 100 years ago, in 1906, was 10 cents. That got me curious, so I plugged the 10 cents into an inflation calculator, using the Consumer Price Index to see what that would be in today's dollars. It turned out to be $2.11. Buying a beer at a bar or restaurant for two bones is not totally unheard of today, but certainly would be a gonga.
